After finishing her business administration degree at Nairobi University, Eunice began her formal career with the ministry of agriculture as a finance officer. Having accomplished promotion related professional exams it was obvious that career growth in the public service would take time, and this thought caused uneasiness and discomfort. Eunice begun to toy with the idea of leaving employment but it was not until 1995 that she was inspired by Hillary Clinton, through a global women conference, in Beinj, China, that she figured out that she was not cut for formal employment. She left formal job in answer to strong entrepreneurial inclines, which she now looks back and can authoritvely confirm that the desire was to fit into her God designed purposes’.
Through persist and inner desire to succeed in the informal “jua kali “, Eunice tried her hand in selling stationery, computer software’s and even clothes. A chat on horticulture exports in a flight to Dubai as she flew to purchase computers, raised Eunice’s ingenuity, and she thought, there is an opportunity to market Kenyan products. Eunice pushed the business idea further and decided to visit the wholesale market in Dubai. Out of the seven businesses visited, none was willing to discuss trade in the risky fruits n vegetables business with a young, armature in export business. God occasioned that the seventh and last shop that Eunice visited was desperately looking for a Kenyan supplier, who could supply their newly created fruits and vegetable line. In August 1998, Eunice received the inaugural one tone order, went on to register an export firm, sourced the produce and in less than 14 days the first order was on a similar flight to Dubai that the export business idea was born. Twelve years down the road, the said client is our number one supporter of hillsides fresh and healthy brand. Hillsides market has since expanded to include containerized avocadoes to Holland, exotic veg to European and Asian vegetables to the Scandinavian.
